MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin wrestling team wrapped up its 2024–25 campaign with a 3-11 dual record, competing through a demanding schedule that featured top regional tournaments and high-level conference matchups. Despite facing stiff competition, the Falcons showed growth throughout the season and delivered several standout efforts in both dual and invitational formats.
CUW opened the season at the Muskie Scramble, where sophomore Cole Ramos (Kenosha, Wis.) and freshman KeiKei Evans (San Antonio, Texas) both captured individual titles. Ramos went 4-0 to win the 157-pound bracket, while Evans claimed heavyweight gold with four falls in his collegiate debut. Freshman Anastacio Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) also impressed with three pins en route to a runner-up finish at 133 pounds.
The Falcons earned their first dual victory of the year in a come-from-behind 36-21 win over Wheaton on November 15, with back-to-back pins by Dawson Galvan (Chula Vista, Calif.), Ruben Vasquez (Westminster, Calif.), and senior Peyton Smith (Milwaukee, Wis.) sealing the result. Later that month, CUW hosted the 30th Annual CUW Open, where Ramos, Martinez, and Vasquez all recorded multiple victories. At the MSOE Invite and North Central Invitational in December, senior TJ Mackey (Joliet, Ill.) and Smith each picked up falls and team-leading point totals.
CUW closed the 2024 calendar strong at the Desert Duals in Las Vegas, earning dominant wins over Linfield (48-6) and Pacific (36-18). Smith led the way with three falls, improving his dual record to 7-1.
In January, the Falcons competed in dual meets against Elmhurst, Aurora, and Lakeland before taking on a gauntlet of opponents at the CCIW Duals. Despite setbacks, Martinez, Evans, and Vasquez each secured individual wins. Smith then made a statement at the 83rd annual Pete Willson Invite, going 4-2 and finishing fourth overall in the heavyweight bracket.
At the CCIW Championships in February, Martinez placed fifth at 133 pounds, scoring 11 team points behind three victories, including two by major decision. Vasquez also reached the podium with a sixth-place finish at 197 pounds, recording a pair of pins in the consolation bracket. Smith capped off his conference career with a fifth-place result at heavyweight, highlighted by a 17-1 tech fall and a 2-0 decision in his final match of the tournament.
The Falcons concluded their season at the NCAA Division III Region VII Championship, where three CUW wrestlers earned individual victories. Martinez and Evans both recorded falls, while Vasquez notched a 4-1 decision over a familiar CCIW opponent.
With a strong group of underclassmen returning — including regional qualifiers Martinez, Vasquez, and Evans — the Falcons aim to take another step forward in 2025–26 under the leadership of head coach Kevin Koch.
