Softball Claimed Both NACC Crowns Again in 2025

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin softball team delivered one of the most memorable seasons in program history in 2025, finishing with a 32-13 overall record, a share of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) regular season championship, and the program's fifth NACC Tournament title. The campaign was capped with a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament — the team's third national appearance in the last four years — and marked just the fifth time the Falcons have reached the 30-win milestone.

Led by first-year head coach Megan Aliverti, the Falcons blended a veteran-laden core with rising underclassmen talent to produce a season full of record-breaking achievements, walk-off wins, and dominant stretches on both sides of the ball. CUW's senior class — featuring Megan Bloyer, Jess Pozezinski, Jasmine Freeze, KianaMarie Taccad, Adrianna Martinez, and Taylor Jacobson — closed out its decorated career as the winningest group in program history with 133 total victories.

CUW opened the year with a tough road doubleheader against nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh before embarking on a pivotal spring break trip in Florida. The Falcons caught fire in the Sunshine State, posting a 7-3 record highlighted by blowout wins, a historic three-triple inning against Allegheny, and the first career no-hitter for Adrianna Martinez in a rout of Neumann.

That early success launched a stretch of inspired play that would define the rest of the season. CUW returned to Wisconsin and rattled off wins in 14 of its next 16 games, including sweeps over Rockford, Edgewood, St. Norbert, and a thrilling home sweep of Carroll where the Falcons rallied from multi-run deficits in both games. The offense led the charge, with multiple hitters — including Bloyer, Freeze, Pozezinski, and Shadoski — catching fire at the plate.

The Falcons went 19-5 in conference action, sharing the NACC regular season crown with Dominican and earning the No. 1 seed via tiebreaker. CUW capped off the league slate with a commanding sweep of Concordia Chicago on the final day of the regular season. The championship-clinching doubleheader featured a five-RBI performance from DuVal, multiple home runs from Freeze, and a program single-season doubles record-breaking hit by Pozezinski.

With their top seed secured, CUW rolled through the NACC Tournament. Sophomore ace Emma Shellstrom tossed a historic no-hitter against MSOE — the first in CUW postseason history and just the third ever in the NACC Tournament — before earning the save in the championship game. CUW survived two tight battles with Benedictine, including a 3-2 win to reach the final and a 7-1 victory to secure the title.

Four Falcons were named to the NACC All-Tournament Team, with Shellstrom earning MVP honors. Pozezinski, Bloyer, and Freeze also earned spots after combining for 18 hits, nine runs, and stellar defensive play throughout the tournament.

CUW entered the NCAA Tournament as one of the hottest teams in the country, having won 13 of its last 14 games. After falling in the regional opener to No. 16 UW-Oshkosh, the Falcons bounced back with an 8-3 elimination-game win over Central (Iowa), fueled by a three-hit, four-RBI performance from Freeze and a clutch three-run homer from Pozezinski. CUW pushed Oshkosh to the limit in a weather-suspended contest before ultimately falling 4-1 to close the season.

Pozezinski and Freeze were both named to the Oshkosh Regional All-Tournament Team.

Five Falcons earned recognition on the 2025 All-NACC teams — tied for the most in the conference. Senior shortstop Jess Pozezinski was named the NACC Position Player of the Year for the second straight season and landed on the All-NACC First Team after leading the league with a .434 batting average, twelve home runs, forty-eight runs scored, a .910 slugging percentage, and a .517 on-base percentage. She also posted fifty-four hits, seventeen doubles, three triples, thirty-seven RBIs, twenty-one walks, and four stolen bases.

Senior catcher Megan Bloyer also secured First Team All-NACC honors for the second consecutive year. She led the league with forty-two RBIs and five sacrifice flies while collecting a team-high fifty-six hits, sixteen doubles, one triple, and seven home runs. Bloyer added nine walks, a stolen base, and gunned down ten would-be base stealers behind the plate.

Sophomore pitcher Emma Shellstrom rounded out CUW's First Team selections after a breakout year in the circle. She finished with fourteen wins, nine complete games, two saves, and a 2.15 earned run average across more than 130 innings pitched. Shellstrom issued just twenty walks and struck out sixty-nine batters.

Sophomore centerfielder Jenna Shadoski earned Second Team All-NACC honors after batting .392 with forty-nine hits, thirty-five runs scored, seven doubles, three triples, one home run, and twenty-four RBIs. She also stole five bases and played error-free defense in center field.

Sophomore first baseman Kaitlyn Way received Honorable Mention honors after a productive sophomore campaign. She batted .371 with thirty-three hits, eighteen RBIs, six extra-base hits, nine runs scored, and six walks.

Pozezinski, Bloyer, Shellstrom, and Way were also named NFCA All-Region selections, tying the program record for most honorees in a single season. Pozezinski additionally broke CUW's all-time records for both career RBIs and doubles during the year.

Off the field, the Falcons earned five CSC Academic All-District selections for the second straight season. Pozezinski, Bloyer, Freeze, DuVal, and Lischka all received the honor, with Pozezinski and Bloyer advancing to the Academic All-America ballot.

The Falcons' 2025 journey was defined by leadership, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Their thirty-two wins are tied for the third-most in program history. The senior class leaves with three NCAA Tournament appearances, three NACC Tournament titles, and three regular season championships — accomplishments that will live on in CUW softball lore.

With Shellstrom, Shadoski, DuVal, Way, and a host of key contributors returning in 2026, the Falcons are well-positioned to make another deep run — chasing even greater heights in a program that continues to soar.
