Football Kicks off 2025 Campaign With a 27-8 Win in Pennsylvania

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Concordia University Wisconsin football team kicked off their 2025 slate hot with w 27-8 win over Thiel College. This was the first time the Falcons played the Pennsylvania team.
 
The Falcons began added the first points on the board at the start of the second quarter. Junior Roman Funk (Scottsdale, Ariz.) found senior Jason Leonard (Tampa, Fla.) in the back of the end zone for a four-yard scoring catch.
 
CUW didn't stop there during the second quarter. Another four pass from Funk, this time to freshman Samuel Frederking (Lakeland, Fla.), increased the Falcons' lead to 14. After the two-minute timeout Funk and Leonard connected for a touchdown again, this one being a 19-yard catch. At halftime, Concordia Wisconsin led Thiel 21-0.
 
In the third quarter, junior kicker Nick Klein (Rome City, Ind.) sent the ball through the goalposts for a 48-yard field goal with12:25 left in the quarter. Klein scored another field goal in the fourth quarter, this one being 45 yards out.
 
The Tomcats did not go quietly they managed to stop the Falcons 1 yard near their end zone. Thiel pushed in a touchdown and a 2-point conversion to prevent a shutout.
 
Funk had a fantastic day on the field. The junior threw for 216 yards, completing 21-of-21 attempts. Leonard was the top receiver for the fame total 59 yards off of three receptions, including a 36-yard catch. On the ground, graduate student Ashar Thomas (Punta Gorda, Fla.) ran for 50 yards (49 net) with 14 carries.
 
The Falcons' defense was unstoppable. They had five interceptions during the contest, junior Devin Glowicki (Commerce City, Colo.) came away with two. Junior Ben Birch (Grafton, Wis.) led the team in tackles with six. Glowicki had three solo tackles of his own, a team high.

The Falcons stay on the road as they play Calvin next weekend in Grand Rapids, Mich. The two teams with face off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.
