Falcons Compete at Pete Willson Invitational

WHEATON, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin wrestling team competed at the Pete Willson Invitational on Friday, hosted by Wheaton College. The event featured 30 teams from across the region. The Falcons took 27th with 10 points.
 
Sophomore Anastacio Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) competed at 133 pounds and opened the day with a dominant performance, pinning Colton Kennedy of Alma just 1:53 into the first period. Martinez fell in his next match to Jacob Blair of Arcadia by major decision before advancing in the consolation bracket via medical forfeit. His tournament run concluded with a loss by major decision to Eli Sneed of Cornell.
 
At 149 pounds, freshman Ben Kaus (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) also earned an opening-round victory, defeating Jamie Lemon Norris of Mount Union by major decision, 11–3. Kaus then dropped a bout by fall to Maksim Mukhamedaliyev of Chicago but responded with a pin of Will Allen from John Carroll. His day came to an end with a loss by fall to Owen Adlfinger of Cornell.
 
Senior Dawson Galvan (Chula Vista, Calif.) competed at 174 pounds and rebounded from an opening-round loss with a closely contested bout against Cameron Campos of Buena Vista. Campos built an early lead with takedowns in the first and second periods, but Galvin answered with an escape, a reversal, and a third-period takedown to keep the match within reach. Galvin ultimately fell by decision, 11–6.
 
Freshman Elijah Torres (Chicago, Ill.) wrestled at 125 pounds and dropped both of his matches. In his second bout against Jeison Ingram of Concordia Moorhead, Torres recorded a takedown and escape in the final seconds before falling by decision.
 
Freshman Hunter Burr (Cudahy, Wis.) competed at 165 pounds and was defeated in both of his matches. Similar outcomes followed for freshmen Tyson Skubal (Minocqua, Wis.) at 157, Kyle Sorenson (Union Grove, Wis.) at 184, and Noah Henderson (Hartland, Wis.) at 141.
 
The Falcons will return to action at the NACC Wrestling Showcase on Friday, Feb. 6. Hosted by MSOE, competition is set to begin at 3 p.m. at the Kern Center in Milwaukee, Wis.
