MEQUON, Wis. – The Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) announced its Men's Hockey Three Stars of the Week on Tuesday morning, and for the second time this season, the Concordia Wisconsin men's hockey team earned two conference honors.
Junior goaltender Blake Hazelton and senior forward Derek Humphreys were both recognized following standout performances over the weekend.
Hazelton, a junior from Lake Orion, Michigan, earns the first NCHA honor of his career after stopping 64 of the 67 shots he faced, finishing the weekend with a combined .955 save percentage. He opened the series on Friday with a 31-save effort in a 5-2 victory before following it up with 33 saves on Saturday, allowing just one goal in an 8-1 series-clinching win.
Humphreys, a senior captain from Spokane, Washington, also claimed his first career NCHA weekly honor. The forward recorded five points on the weekend, beginning with a primary assist on the game-winning power-play goal in Friday's 5-2 victory. He followed that performance with four points on Saturday, scoring two goals—including a shorthanded tally—and adding two assists in the Falcons' 8-1 win. With his shorthanded goal, Humphreys set the Concordia Wisconsin program record for career shorthanded goals.
Jakson Kirk of Aurora was selected as the conference's third star of the week.
The Falcons will have the week off before returning to action against St. Norbert on Jan. 16.
