CUW Wraps Up Dual Season at NACC Showcase

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin wrestling team dropped both matches at the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) Showcase Duals, closing out the dual portion of the season with a 2–10 overall record.

Match 1 | Aurora 42, Concordia Wisconsin 11

The Falcons entered the day as the No. 4 seed and opened competition against top-seeded Aurora. The Spartans claimed victories at 125, 133, and 141 pounds, taking an early 16–0 lead.

CUW got on the board at 149 pounds, where freshman Ben Kaus (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) delivered a momentum-shifting pin against Alex Gochis at the 6:22 mark. After trailing 8–3 entering the third period, Kaus turned the tide with a nearfall in the final minute. Following a brief exchange of reversals, Kaus secured the pin just nine seconds later to earn six team points.

Aurora responded by winning the next four bouts at 157, 165, 174, and 184 pounds. Concordia Wisconsin closed the dual strong at 197, as freshman Kyle Sorenson (Union Grove, Wis.) earned a technical fall victory over Jeff Sorich. Sorenson tallied five takedowns and added a riding time point to reach the 15-point threshold, sealing the 19–4 tech fall as time expired. CUW forfeited the 185-pound bout.

Match 2 | Lakeland 47, Concordia Wisconsin 4

Lakeland controlled the second dual of the day, defeating the Falcons 47–4. Concordia Wisconsin's lone victory came once again from Kaus at 149 pounds, as he earned an 11–1 major decision over Carson Smith. Kaus recorded an early takedown in the first period and added two nearfalls in the third, along with a riding time point, to secure the win.

At 174 pounds, senior Dawson Galvan (Chula Vista, Calif.) battled Dillon Raab in a competitive bout. Despite a 13–6 loss, Galvan's takedowns in both the second and third periods limited Lakeland to three team points.

Concordia Wisconsin will next turn its attention to the CCIW postseason. The Falcons will compete at the CCIW Futures Tournament on Friday, Feb. 13, followed by the CCIW Championships on Saturday. Both events will be hosted by Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.
