Falcons Drop Series Finale to RV Gustavus Adolphus in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Concordia University Wisconsin baseball team dropped an 8-1 decision to RV Gustavus Adolphus in the finale of a four-game series at the Tucson Invitational Games. The Falcons move to 0-4 on the season.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when the Gusties pushed across the first run. CUW answered in the bottom of the fifth to even the score at 1-1. With freshman Jameson Dick (Chesapeake, Va.) on third and sophomore Graham Kasten (Mequon, Wis.) on first, freshman Jack Anzelmo (Appleton, Wis.) came to the plate. A wild pitch allowed Dick to race home, accounting for the Falcons' lone run of the contest.

Gustavus Adolphus regained control, plating seven unanswered runs over the final innings to secure the victory.

Junior Luke Heinkel (Brookfield, Wis.) led the Royal Blue and Grey at the plate with two of the team's five hits. Brady Coons, Kasten and Anzelmo each added a hit.

Senior Nick Barksdale (Walnut Creek, Calif.) earned the start on the mound, tossing five innings. He faced 18 batters, striking out three without issuing a walk. Five relievers combined to cover the final four frames. Barksdale was charged with the loss and falls to 0-1 on the year.

The Falcons return to action tomorrow against RV La Verne on day four of the Tucson Invitational Games. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. MST.
