CUW Earns Split on the Road Against Edgewood

VERONA, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin baseball team split a NACC doubleheader at Edgewood on Thursday after the series was postponed earlier in the week due to weather. The Falcons now sit at 15-15 overall and 11-5 in conference play.

The split marked CUW's first regular-season win over the Eagles since 2023, when the teams also divided their series. Edgewood continues to lead the all-time matchup, 35-29.

GAME 1 | Edgewood 16, Concordia Wisconsin 3 (7 innings)
Edgewood jumped out early and never looked back, handing the Falcons a run-rule loss in the opener.

CUW got on the board in the top of the second when freshman Dylan Hein (Dyer, Ind.) led off the inning with a solo home run to left-center—his fourth of the season. The Falcons added two more runs in the third, capitalizing on Eagle errors to cut the deficit to 6-3.

However, Edgewood responded with a big fifth inning to pull away and secure the shortened victory.

The Falcons were limited to four hits, with Hein, Joe Landgraf (Fr.-Hartford, Wis.), Connor Lasch (Jr.-Chicago, Ill.), and Jason Valdez (Jr.-Glendale Heights, Ill.) each recording one. Landgraf and junior Alex Ames (Plymouth, Wis.) also added stolen bases.

Senior Nick Barksdale (Walnut Creek, Calif.) took the loss after striking out nine over 4.2 innings. Freshman Ben Peterson (Minocqua, Wis.) provided an inning of relief, and Caleb Couser recorded the final out.

GAME 2 | Concordia Wisconsin 8, Edgewood 3
CUW bounced back in game two behind timely hitting and a strong outing on the mound.

The Falcons struck first with a three-run third inning. Lasch drove in the opening run with an RBI double, and sophomore Brady Coons (Kimberly, Wis.) followed with a two-run single through the left side.

Edgewood answered in the fourth to tie the game, but CUW quickly regained control. Senior Matt Miller (Fredonia, Wis.) delivered an RBI single in the fifth, and Lasch drew a bases-loaded walk to push the lead back to two.

Freshman Jack Anzelmo (Appleton, Wis.) provided the power surge, launching a solo home run in the sixth before adding a two-run blast in the ninth to seal the win.

Anzelmo finished with two home runs and three RBIs. Hein drew four walks, while Valdez added three. Freshman Jameson Dick (Chesapeake, Va.), senior Brandon McCray (Corona, Calif.), and Lasch each recorded a stolen base.

Freshman Easton Oliver (West Bend, Wis.) earned the win with a dominant 7.1 innings, striking out nine and allowing just one walk to improve to 5-0 on the season. Freshman Russell Roodenburg (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and senior Tyler Bartczak (Crestwood, Ill.) combined to close out the game, with Bartczak striking out three in the final inning.

CUW returns to Kapco Park on Wednesday, April 22, for a conference doubleheader against Marian. First pitch is set for 1 p.m., with game two to follow at approximately 4 p.m.
