SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's tennis team opened up competition on Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional Championships and at the Gustie Invite in Saint Peter, Minnesota. Concordia claimed six victories on Friday in Minnesota.
The Falcons had two singles performances and one doubles team at the ITA Regionals.
Freshman Jordin Popp (Manitowoc, Wis.) had a first-round bye and opened up the ITA Singles Draw with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Molly Jex of Dubuque.
Freshman Samantha Behling (Brookfield, Wis.) was beat in the first round of the competition by Aisha Burung of Coe., 6-0, 6-4.
In the doubles bracket, Jordin Popp and freshman Taylor Peterson (Manitowoc, Wis.) were topped in the first round by Wisconsin-Eau Claire, 8-2.
The Falcons had six individuals compete in the Gustie Fall Invite as well on Friday.
In Draw 2, senior Payton Steward (Appleton, Wis.) sank Harsha Gangsanni of Saint Mary's, 4-1, 4-1, but then fell to Kaitlin Rahne of St. Benedictine, 3-5, 4-1, 11-9.
Taylor Peterson opened up Draw 5 play with a 4-2, 4-1 victory over Makenna Sanders of Wisconsin-River Falls, but was then topped by Zaylee Rose of St. Olaf, 4-3, 3-5, 13-11.
Junior Katelyn de Guzman (Belvidere, Ill.) was defeated in Draw 6 by Shayla Draper of Hamline, 4-0, 4-1.
Freshman Rachel Malm (Brookfield, Wis.) clipped Ellie Krube of St. Scholastica in Draw 7, 4-1, 5-3.
Sophomore Abigail Hailey (Frohna, Mo.) battled in Draw 8, put was defeated by Mia Franke of Carroll, 0-4, 5-3, 10-7.
Sophomore Taylor Weiner (Bakersfield, Calif.) fought hard at Draw 9, but Anea Simunovic of Bethany Lutheran advanced, 4-0, 4-2.
In doubles draw 1, Rachel Malm and Katelyn de Guzman were defeated by Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 8-6.
Samantha Behling and Payton Steward advanced in Draw 3 with an 8-1 victory over NACC rival Edgewood.
The Birds picked up another win in Draw 4, with Abigail Hailey and Taylor Weiner running over Ripon, 8-1.
The Falcons look to continue their advances on Saturday in Minnesota.
