Men's Track & Field Had a Stellar Season

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin men's track and field team completed the 2024–25 season with a fourth-place finish at both the NACC Indoor and Outdoor Championships, highlighted by four school records, three individual titles, and strong contributions across every event group.

CUW opened the indoor season with a fourth-place result at the Ripon Winter Open. Sophomore Zach Wendland (Green Bay, Wis.) took second in the high jump and added points in the pole vault and 300-meter dash. Senior Jaden Schultz (Havana, Ill.) placed third in the mile, while junior John Kutner (Muskego, Wis.) reached the podium in the weight throw.

The Falcons built momentum in January, winning the 4x400-meter relay at North Central's Pat Heenan Invite with a time of 3:33.73. That squad featured freshmen Lucas Mathes (Brillion, Wis.) and Kam'Ron Pierre (Santa Clarita, Calif.), Wendland, and senior Isaiah Lubner (Campbellsport, Wis.). Senior Timmy Brey (Cedarburg, Wis.) added silver in the 3,000-meter, and Mathes scored in the triple jump.

Through February, Wendland, Lubner, and junior Brandon Donahue (Hubertus, Wis.) posted consistent marks across hurdles, sprints, and distance events. Brey set a season best in the 5,000-meter at UW-Whitewater, and freshman Jonah Slavik (Muskego, Wis.) contributed in long-distance races. At the Ripon Last Chance Meet, Donahue clocked a personal best 9.03 in the 60-meter hurdles, entering CUW's all-time top ten.

The Falcons placed fourth at the NACC Indoor Championships with 51 points. Brey won the 3,000-meter title in 8:39.78, and Wendland captured the heptathlon with a school-record 4,316 points. Lubner broke the indoor 800-meter school record with a silver-medal time of 1:56.87, while Mathes took fourth in the triple jump. CUW also scored in the 5,000-meter, relays, and multi-events.

CUW opened the outdoor season with a seventh-place finish at Rose-Hulman, where senior Zach Leahy (West Dundee, Ill.) won the 800-meter and Wendland and sophomore Josh Sipes (Charleston, Ill.) went 3–5 in the 400-meter hurdles. Mathes placed second in the triple jump, and throwers Justin Clark (Goodyear, Ariz.), Holter Gette (Batavia, Ill.), and Wendland added javelin points.

The Falcons placed third at the Beloit Relays with 175 points, including wins by Brey, Leahy, and Lubner in distance events. CUW added 97 points in jumps and throws, led by Gette's 50.56-meter javelin mark and Mathes' silver in triple jump. Wendland and senior Jacob Couillard (Kingsford, Mich.) led a 1–2 pole vault finish.

At the St. Norbert Invite, Lubner set the outdoor 800-meter school record in 1:53.67, and Brey added the outdoor 3,000-meter mark at 8:42.67. At Augustana's Meet of Champions, Wendland scored 5,772 points in the decathlon.

The Falcons scored 76 points to finish fourth at the NACC Outdoor Championships. Lubner won the 800-meter in 1:55.10, Wendland earned gold in the 400-meter hurdles with a career-best 54.94, and Brey repeated as 5,000-meter champion with a time of 14:40.98. Gette and Clark earned silver and bronze in javelin, and the 4x400-meter relay team of Roseman, Mathes, Wendland, and Lubner finished third at 3:23.23.

Donahue scored consistently in the hurdles, while Schultz, Slavik, and Leahy contributed in mid-distance events. Mathes scored in both jumps throughout the year, and freshmen Clark, Clayton Nichols (Oconomowoc, Wis.), and Hayden Kettmann (Beecher, Ill.) provided depth in the throws. Sipes, sophomore Riley Johnson (Cedar Lake, Ind.), and freshman Jalen Pressley (Leesburg, Fla.) made key contributions in sprints and relays.

CUW broke four school records during the year: Lubner in the indoor and outdoor 800-meter, Brey in the outdoor 3,000-meter, and Wendland in the heptathlon. With several top scorers returning and a promising first-year class, the Falcons are well positioned for a strong 2025–26 campaign.
